Wellness Exams

Wellness exams, annual exams, routine exams, are important for your pet to live a long and healthy life. A Wellness Exam consists of one of our veterinarians checking your pet over from nose to tail. They will look in the ears with an otoscope, check the eyes with an ophthalmoscope, listen to heart and lungs with their stethoscope and check lymph nodes as well as for any other lumps or bumps. These exams are for pets that are not having any health related issues, that the pet owner is aware of and are generally just routine physicals.

Sometimes during a Wellness exam our veterinarians do find an issue. If this happens, and the exam becomes more of a focused exam due to the issue, it can become a sick exam.

Sick Exams

Sick exams are when your pet has an issue. It may be skin, ears, eyes, urinary, upset stomach or diarrhea. All of these are important and need the attention of a veterinarian. However, if your pet has an eye issue, and not knowing exactly what is going on, it is recommended that your pet be seen as soon as possible or within 24 hrs to prevent loss of eye sight.

If your pet is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, be prepared to give a brief history: How old is your pet? Is your pet up-to-date on vaccines? Could they have ingested something they should not have? Have they gotten into a potential toxin? How long has this been going on?

If you are scheduling your pet for an appointment related to a urinary issue or diarrhea, please bring in a urine sample or a fecal sample. We will need to run the sample to help us determine the cause of the issue. The fresher the sample the better, you may collect the sample up to 12 hrs prior to the appointment and refrigerate it until you leave for the appointment.

Surgery

We offer spay and neuter, as well as minor soft tissue surgeries for dogs and cats. We recommend to spay or neuter when your pet is 6 months of age or older. In some instances, we MAY be able to spay or neuter at a younger age. To spay or neuter dogs and cats helps to minimize the likelihood of center types of cancers and other health related issues that can occur.

We can schedule a routine exam for your pet or a pre-surgery consult with a technician, at that visit we will go over the procedure, expectations, costs and requirements. You will also receive an estimate for the surgery and any other services requested. A Rabies vaccination will be REQUIRED to be given at the time of the surgery if your pet is old enough, and is not current on one. If your pet is current on their Rabies vaccine, you must provide us with written proof from where it was given by a licensed veterinarian. Ideally, your pet has been established with our clinic and has had an exam and started on vaccines prior to a surgical appointment. Exams and estimates are valid for 30 days.

Heartworm Prevention

For heartworm prevention and treatment, we follow the guidelines set by the American Heartworm Society www.heartwormsociety.org.
We provide various forms of heartworm preventions, oral, injectable, and topical. All heartworm preventions are prescription only and are recommended to be given year round. We do require your dog to have a current exam by one of our veterinarians, and an annual heartworm test so that we may continue to dispense heartworm preventions for your dog. Puppies may be started on heartworm prevention if under 6 months of age and have a current exam on file with our clinic. Clients may purchase heartworm preventions in our clinic or from our online store. We do not recommend, nor will we authorize prescriptions from any other outside or online pharmacies. This is due to the concern that those medications may not be handled properly, or that they are not from the real manufacturer. All of our heartworm preventions that you will purchase in clinic or from our online store come from the manufacturer and are guaranteed. The manufacturer will back their products ONLY if purchased from a licensed veterinarian. Read More
